What it is

The Star of David is one of the most important symbols in Judaism. It is made from two triangles placed on top of each other, forming a six-pointed star. In Hebrew, it is called the Magen David, which means “Shield of David.”

What it means

The Star of David has been used for many centuries and has different meanings:

  • Some say it represents the shield of King David from the Bible.

  • Others see it as a symbol of the connection between God and people, with one triangle pointing up (to heaven) and the other pointing down (to earth).

Today

The Star of David is now a well-known symbol of Judaism and Jewish identity. It is often seen in Jewish art, jewellery, decorations, and even on the flag of Israel. Many synagogues and Jewish organisations use it as a sign of unity, faith, and strength for the Jewish community.
