Background

The Bible is a very special book for Christians. They believe it contains God’s words and teachings. It is made up of two main parts:

  • The Old Testament – written before Jesus was born.

  • The New Testament – written after Jesus was born, focusing on his life and followers.

Christians read the Bible for guidance, inspiration, and to learn how to live according to their faith.

The Old Testament

The Old Testament is the first part of the Bible. It is also important in the Jewish faith.

  • It tells the story of how the world was created.

  • It introduces people like Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and King David.

  • It includes the Ten Commandments and the story of the Israelites escaping from Egypt.

  • It contains different types of writing: history, laws, poems, and teachings.

The Old Testament helps us see the relationship between God and people. It teaches lessons about faith, courage, justice, and living a good life.

The New Testament

The New Testament is all about Jesus and the early Christian church.

  • The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) tell the story of Jesus’ life, his miracles, and his teachings about love, kindness, and forgiveness.

  • The Epistles are letters written by early Christian leaders like Paul and Peter. These letters gave advice and encouragement to new Christians.

  • The Book of Revelation is the final book. It uses symbols and visions to show that good will win over evil.

The New Testament helps Christians understand Jesus’ message and how to live as his followers.

Why the Bible is Important

For Christians, the Bible is like a guidebook. It teaches them:

  • how to love and forgive others

  • how to live kindly and fairly

  • how to grow in their faith

It also gives comfort, strength, and hope during difficult times.

How Christians Use the Bible

Christians use the Bible in many ways:

  • Reading – on their own, with family, or with friends.

  • Studying – in Sunday school or Bible study groups.

  • Church services – where passages are read out loud and explained in sermons.

  • Prayer – using verses to feel close to God.

  • Memory – learning verses by heart to remember important messages.

The Bible is more than just a book. For Christians, it is a source of wisdom, guidance, and inspiration for daily life.
