Although the Prophet Muhammad did not himself perform any miracles, Islamic tradition teaches that Muhammad’s Night Journey (Isra’) and Ascension (Mi’raj) were miracles performed by Allah.

Isra’ and Mi’raj

One night, the angel Jibril took Muhammad from Mecca to Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem on a special winged creature called Buraq. This is called Isra’ (the Night Journey). In Jerusalem, Muhammad prayed with other prophets (including Ibrahim, Musa, and Isa).

Then, Mi'raj (the Ascension) began. Muhammad went up through the seven heavens, again meeting earlier prophets. In the highest heaven, he met Allah, who gave him instructions about the importance of prayer. This event established the practice of Muslims praying five times a day (salah - see §1.3), and reinforced the importance of Jerusalem in Islam.

Isra’ and Mi’raj show Muhammad's special role as a prophet. It is commemorated by Muslims as a night of reflection, reminding them of the connection between themselves and Allah.
