The Event of the Ascension

Forty days after the Resurrection, Jesus gathered his disciples together one final time. According to Luke’s Gospel (Luke 24:50–53) and the Book of Acts (Acts 1:6–11), Jesus blessed them and then was taken up into heaven, rising into the sky until a cloud hid him from their sight. The disciples returned to Jerusalem filled with joy and continued to worship and praise God. The Ascension marks the end of Jesus’ physical life on Earth and the completion of his earthly mission.

What the Ascension Means

The Ascension shows Jesus’ return to God the Father, emphasising his divine nature. It also reveals that his work on Earth was finished — he had completed the tasks of teaching, healing, dying on the cross, and rising again.
